hyd pump coupler 440icd

Post by 440dozer » Sun May 10, 2009 5:23 pm

does any one know where i can find the coupling that connects the hyd pump to the crankshaft? or any tricks on fixing it. front left side motor mount bolts fell out and shifted motor and stripped splines out in coupling.

Easy Fix

Post by JMETCALF » Sun May 17, 2009 8:25 pm

I just finished putting engine back in my 440ic friday after rebuild.Hyd coupler splines stripped out soon after getting engine running.Called Levoy for replacement.JD dealer only item which is no longer available. I welded shaft to coupling did not even take it back apart works great and cost nothing. 8)

You can mix and match parts and get them from several sources. Deere did not design the spline format on the Cessna and Hydreco pumps and many other companies used the same basic parts (Ford, AC, Case, Oliver, IH, etc.). Also, some of those splined couplers and shafts are available from places like Baum Hydraulics. Measure the pump shaft OD and count splines. Also measure the couple center-to-center bolt hole specs and you buy what you need to match.

hydraulic pump coupler

I purchased a splined coupling from Kaman that was splined and coupled a hydraulic pump to a skid steer. The brand name of the coupling is Magnaloy.

Site looks like a good place to find what you are looking for at a reasonable price.
Good luck and let us know what you end up getting.

only problem with welding is you will burn seals up in the pump. it is a 1 inch shaft with 6 splines and coupling is about 2 1/2 inches long. got a machine shop friend i think he is going to make me a new one.

Do you need the drive that bolts to the crankshaft, or do you need the coupling that connects the pump to the driveshaft? I have new couplings on hand if that is what you need.

I need the 6 spline coupling that connects the hyd pump shaft to the crank shaft. If you got one, how much?

I still am not sure which piece you need. There are 3 pieces involved, a coupling that bolts to the crank pulley, a short piece of splined shaft, and another coupling that goes on this shaft and connects it to the hyd pump.

this is what I have, don't know if it is what is supposed to be there. I have a 1 inch O.D. 6 spline male shaft on my crankshaft, and I have a 1 inch O.D. 6 spline male shaft on my hydraulic pump, the part i need and the part that stripped out is the female 1 inch I.D. 6 spline that is coupling that connects the two shafts, the hyd pump and the crankshaft.

440 coupling

Post by JMETCALF » Sun May 24, 2009 9:13 pm

I have looked at all the after market sites showed in the postings and have found no one that has the piece that will bolt to the crank pulley. And welding the splined shaft to this piece does not burn up any pump seals or anything else. And works very well at little or no cost. On my pump some one drilled penned and welded the pump side of the sleave to the shaft.Has not given me any trouble yet. 8)
