1010 gas turns off uphill
Hi, I'm trying to clear a hill with my JD 1010 gas dozer, and now whenever the front of the machine leans up hill at all, it stalls and wont start until its level. It can go down hill fine. I think it's some kind of fuel problem but I'm not sure.
I'm running the machine right now (5/27/09 2pm), if anyone reads this within a few hours and has any ideas call me: 845-399-8477
Andrew

got a few suggestions here, i have seen them all with my own eyes. if you have a rubber fuel line, i had the inner layer bubble up. When you start going up hill the fuel heads to the back of the tank and quits pushing fuel through the bubble in the line and actually shuts fuel off. OR there is a small particle in the fuel tank that gets sucked into the fuel tank orfice when fuel goes to back of tank and plugs it off and when you become level the gas floats it back out of the orfice returning flow of gas. a wasp tail was blocking my fuel tank orfice. OR there is not enough gas in the tank and it runs out on an incline, but i am almost sure you would realize if there was enough gas in the tank before posting, although I have overlooked some of the small stuff like that and had a DUH feeling. Hope some of this helps

The gas tank has one fuel line coming off the back corner.
The machine has a full float bowl when it quits running.
I cleaned the carb and it starting going up hill fine. After 30 minutes it stoped going up hill. I cleaned the carb and it worked good for another hour. It might be a jet problem, or need a carb rebuild?
Or could it be a heat problem? And the gas tank gets pressure in it, is that bad?

Have you checked for bad, old gas, or water? Do you have a sediment bowl or filter between the gas tank and the carb? If not, try parking with tank fuel line in lowest point you can get it, (or tank drain) after it has sat for awhile or overnight. Back fuel line nut off and drain some gas into mason jar. (guess you could open line at more convenient place ahead of a filter if you have a filter as I'm not familiar with your fuel delivery system) If this is the problem, you should see blobs of water in the bottom of the jar.
Sounds like you gas cap gasket is good. Do you see condensation inside of cap when you remove it? Even being careful it is easy for water to get into system. We put filter/water seperators on all our bulk tanks and pickup bulk tank pumps to cut down time from plugged fuel filters. Once moisture gets in, it's hard to get rid of. I drain a little diesel at start of each shift from sump on my excavator, (seperate petcock) as part of prework inspection. In 10,000 hours I've never had to change fuel filters except at 250 hour services, but probably collected a total of 1 gallon of water since 2001.
My MC has a sediment bowl screwed into bottom of gas tank but had to drain carb bowl once after it had sat for a couple of years. Good luck

It gets gas to the carb fine. It only stops running when its hot and the front is up hill, once it cools down it works good.
Is there suppose to be a clip holding the carb float to the valve thing? It seems like it gets stuck up when the float falls down away from it.
