Could be a pump problem, could be someone turned the smoke screw up trying to get more power. One of the other guys can maybe answer it better than I can. A 1010 will smoke under heavy load, but not maybe as much as you are describing.

I would have to be looking at a bood to tell you for sure which one, but either way, not something that you likely should be adjusting yourself.
Timing is done by rotating the pump one way or the other, just like a distributor.

Depending on pump, there can/will be other adjustments as well, none of which you should probably mess with unless you know what you are doing.
One thought I just had, make sure your fuel filters are new, and that there are no restrictions in the air intake/filter area.

Lavoy, I've had The Pump Rebuilt Twice, Once 750.00 The Second Time I Had A Different Guy Check The Settings And Injectors That Was 225.00 ...... Same As When I Started... The Engine Starts So-So, Once Running It Sounds Great, Idies Nice And Has Great Responce... BUT The Black Smoke And The Smoke Burning My Eyes Is My Problem... Filters Are New And Tube Is Off Aircleaner (Until I Figure This Out)...

Jeff,
Yes, sorry about that, I forgot you already had it rebuilt. My 1010 did not smoke too bad, my brother's that is a later serial number with a different pump and the Bosch injectors will smoke when under load, but not idle or real light load.
As to starting, do all of your glow plugs work? How long are you heating it before starting?

Yes, All Glow Plugs Are New And Working... (Damn Those Things Get Hot) I Just Rebuilt And Plumbed The Primer And That Seems To Help Alot. I'll Work On It More In The Next Month, I Get Burned Out On Problem Like This And Have To Walk Away For A Month .......

primer

Post by Eric.MacLeod » Wed Jun 10, 2009 3:41 pm

hello jeff, i have no idea about diesel pumps but i couldnt help but notice your last statement about adding a primer, i bought a snowmobile once that ran very rich, nobody that had it before could fix it. once i was riding it i stopped to talk to a friend of mine and he said that must be hard on fuel the way its going thru the fuel line, when i looked down the primer must have broke inside and was sucking raw fuel into the intake big time, i took the line off and plugged with a stick a it ran great once it wasnt sucking all that gas into the intake, just a thought may not even be close to the problem but might give it a check... WOW !!!!!!! I Never Thought Of That.... I'll Try Unhooking The Primer And See What Happens.... Makes Alot Of Sence, The Engine Is Sucking Fuel In From The Primer Line...

Thanks
Jeff
