Battery Conditioner/40c receipt

Post by 2010OWNER » Sun Sep 06, 2009 9:20 am

A few months ago I bought a battery maintainer/conditioner that was advertised as being able to extend the life of a battery up to double, using "patented technology to produce a wide range of high frequency pulses".
Well, after using the battery charger/maintainer/conditioner for two months, my 8 year old battery died. A new 30 H from NAPA was $110.
My question is: Have any of you used this technology on your batteries? If you have used them, did you have good results?
Maybe my battery was too far gone to bring back; or I bought an expensive trickle charger.

On an entirely different subject: While going through some old papers I had stashed in the attic I found the original sales receipt for Dad's 40c.
(I'd found it and brought it back home a few years ago.) I was told he bought it in May of 1954, but the receipt indicates he ordered it October 14, 1955 and put $2500 down. He took delivery on November 3, 1955 and paid off the balance due. Going by the serial number, it was built near the end of the 40c production run.
Purchase price: $4500 + $150 sales tax. Included equipment was "hydraulic blade, cab, and CarCo C2 winch.
I'm such a pack rat, I wonder what else I have up there in the attic.

8 years is about 4 times what I expect from a cheap battery, and still a couple more years than I average for a good battery. I have seen the maintainer's before, but never bought one.

I have bought two of the Battery Minder Plus units.

I've had them for about a year now and have been pleased so far. The batteries are always ready to go when I am. I have them hooked to one fairly new battery, and one is about 2 years old. I will have to see if it makes them last longer than usual but everything I've read about them is positive. The technology they use and the way the unit works (which is different that any other maintainer I've seen) makes sense from what I know about batteries. I'm not working for Diversified Aviation nor have I any reason to profit from promoting their products. I just got so tired of buying batteries and charging batteries, I had to find a better way.

Just my 2 cents.

The "new technology" seems to make sense in theory, not certain if it is actually much better than any other good charger.
The problem is not so much what type of charger, but how well the battery is put together. Once they start leaking across internally, nothing will bring them back.

Look at it like a partially shorted circuit that finally gets so advanced that it makes an excellent connection which is a drain on the old battery. It is about that same as running a good wire from one post to the other.

You never know how long batteries are going to last. The one in my 730 D with pony is from 2001. It still charges and still starts right up.
Trust me, I know that any day now I am going to press the start button and hear nothing.
