You use the tracks off of a D21 Komatsu, or BD2G Mitsubishi, and the weld on sprocket rims off of the Mitsubishi. You can no longer run rock guards unless you cut them off due to clearance issues.
This will only work on 5 roller crawlers, nothing else as the tracks can not be shortened like steel tracks.

Any word on longevity? I am looking at doing this very seriously. I do use the machine a lot and would like to keep my original tracks for a restoration one day!

Nice to see this thread still running. I bought a rubber tired skid steer so that I could run back and forth to my daughters property a half mile away by road and do earth works, etc. Tracks like this would mean I could do the same with my 420. If I want to move the dozer, it costs me $40/move. I don't have a large enough truck and trailer to do it myself. I often barter, but real independence is a nice thing.

New tracks for D21, $2300.00. Kinda out of the ballpark.

Love the project but......

I have a Kubota mini excavator with rubber tracks and I do not like them. They tend to stretch and pop off at the worst times (no rock guards on the excavator), and they cut pretty easily in the woods. The worst part is they are downright scary in the winter. Luckily I only use the excavator for cutting firewood at the log landing when things are frozen, but rubber tracks on the crawler would mean the end of winter logging fun. For the right person in a warm climate it's a very cool idea, though.

Hi,

And, to put the cost in perspective, new 350 tracks are $4300 for non-name brand. And, you still need to buy two ring sprockets and deal with the cutting and welding part. But, then they are steel and you get to keep the rock guards.

I often wonder if you couldn't adapt a set of tracks off an air-track drill. I see old ones pop up for sale every now and then and they have small undercarriages.

Hi,

Too small for a Deere, the ones I have seen. Some would fit a Terratrac, though.
