I've been looking for some time for a newer winch to replace the old (and dead) Series 20 on the back of my crawler.
According to my parts book, a direct bolt up replacement is a 3325.
I've found a guy parting out a 440 skidder with a 3305 winch on it.
Before I go and spend half a day driving; does anyone have any inkling if the 3305 would bolt up? Is it a smaller winch?
Thanks,
Brian

Series 20 Winch
Stretch,
Thanks for the offer, but even if you were giving it away, I don't think I'd want to pay for the stamps that it would take to mail it to Matlock.
How did you get it rebuilt? I have two of them, both with the same problem; rusted out pressure cylinders that won't hold brake fluid. I was told 10 years ago those parts were no longer available for the Series 20.

Series 20 Winch
The cylinder that was my main problem is behind the pressure plate. It is a groove about 8" in diameter, 3/4" deep, 1/2" wide. When you pull on the winch control handle, brake fluid is pushed into the groove, pushes on a rubber "quad ring", pushes on a metal ring, pushes on the pressure plate.
My understanding is the system works fine if it is used frequently and the condensation is burnt off. If used infrequently, condensation causes rust and pits eventually leading to leaks past the quad ring.
Unable to get a new one from Deere, I took mine into a machine shop years ago and had them sleeve it as you mentioned. The repair leaked brake fluid all over my brake and clutches so I didn't make another attempt.
My understanding is that the 3325 has wet clutches and brakes and can set for years without a problem. I'd like to go that route as I only would use the winch a couple times a year. As a plus, the ring and pinion are interchangable between the Series 20 and the 3325.
