420C Roller Grease fittings?

Post by handlebar99 » Sun Dec 18, 2005 3:48 pm

What do you call the grease filttings on the rollers of a 420C? The manual references a "special grease gun furnished with the tractor". Where can I get an adaptor for a grease gun that will fit these fittings?

I just bought my 420C with a 90 loader & scarifier at an estate auction. It had been sitting in a barn for a number of years and the auction folks couldn't get it started. (Fortunately!) When I got it home I replaced the condenser and it runs like a champ. I have been having a ball rooting out the multifora rose thickets which have been taking over the pasture.

This is a great site -- I've learned a lot already -- thanx for hosting the site.

They are called button head fittings. I have new hose and adapters, if you want one, $45 + freight.

I bought a Lincoln pistol grip type grease gun from NAPA. With a button-head grease coupler from Lavoy, you'd be set. I'm also using the John Deere Corn Head Grease and it works great.

My local Yellowhouse had the adapter in stock. It was less than $30.00 as I remember.

what diameter is needed? 5/8" or 7/8"? I have a 440, assuming they would be the same?

If it is on Lindeman, MC, or 3 roller 40, it is likely the 7/8", if 420 or later, then 5/8".
