420 reverser

Post by industrial420c » Mon Dec 19, 2005 5:52 pm

is it normal for the reverser to be noisy / grumbly. it works ok and this may be normal, but it is noticably more noisy in reverse useing the reverser than useing reverse gear.anyone with a crawler with reverser please let me know if yours is similar.or not

thanks Walt

You didn't say wether it is the old style reverser or the newer one but if it is the newer one check your fluid level but more than likely you have a bearing going bad.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to reverser noise. I have had rebuilt reversers howl, and original ones that were so quiet it is scary. Give the potential cost if there is a problem and you keep running it, I would take it apart to be safe. There are lots of little bearings and such in there that can be bad. Even if you find it is OK, it is worth the piece of mind to know that, and good to get fresh gear lube in there.

The only way to change the fluid in the reverser is to split the crawler and remove the reverser from the front of the transmission.
