Battery

Post by /J^ » Wed Dec 21, 2005 5:37 pm

I am wondering about what to do about a battery for my 420 crawler. I know it is supposed to use a 6 volt but cannot find one that would work. Should I use a 12 volt?
Thanks GC

12 volts is hard on starters and ring gears, you will have to disconnect all of your charging system and related wiring, you will have to change the coil or put in a ballast resistor, and unless you put an alternator on it, you will not have anything charging your battery any more.

What do you use for a battery or what is your setup?
Thanks GC

I bought a 6V Exide battery from the local JD dealer. I would imagine NAPA could probably get them as well. If tuned up right, a 6V crawler should start fine. Mine did at -15deg F last year with no fuss whatsoever.

The correct 6 volt battery is readily available, any good automotive store should have them, farm and fleet stores, NAPA, John Deere, or any brand tractor store as far as that goes.
