Depends on which one you have. The 440IC (gas) was 6 volt from the factory. The 440ICD (diesel) was 12 volt from the factory.
I would say that any battery over around 650 CCA would be OK. It also depends on how cold it is where you are and the condition of the engines, especially if it is the 2-53.

I use a group 31 12Volt battery in my 440ICD, I figure if it will start a 12 valve Cummins in a Dodge truck it might start a 2-53 Jimmy.

Bryce,
Does your 2-53 have the "N" kit? I am thinking of having mine upgraded pretty soon.
I have been told by many that it helps with starting.

I feel sure my 2-53 is the same as it left the "Detroit" factory in 59. Every time I think of a 'Detroit" engine I remember about 40 years ago I was at a BIG truck shop in Dallas getting a set of rear springs re-arched for one of my many Mopars. There was a Pherd cabover in there getting some work done on the front axle, just happened to notice the "jimmy" 6-71 engine in it and said something to the driver about it. He was very sure it was NOT a "jimmy" 6-71 but a "Detroit" 6-71 in his Pherd truck. I thought A l l r i g h t, sure, and didn't say anything else.
