pricing question

Post by rhoffmann01@snet.net » Mon Jan 25, 2010 4:54 pm

I have a John Deere diesel 1010 crawler that I would like to sell, but I have no idea as to what to ask for it. Is there some place that will help me to determine a fair market value for my crawler?

If you ask 20 guys about value, you will get 50 answers. Value is subjective, depends on condition, recent repairs, paint, collectability and desireability. It is unlikely you will find any place that will give you a meaningful answer, and by that I mean one that is based on what the crawler really is, not what they saw/heard/knew about from their brother in law's thrid cousin twice removed.
I get this question probably twice a week, and the simple answer is $500-$5000. The trouble is, when I give someone that range, the only number they hear is the highest, when in reality, their crawler might be the lowest.
If you can give us a better idea of what the crawler is, what option and attachments, and specific work done to the crawler as well as overall condition, we should be able to get you a number that is at least close.

Lavoy You left out location, as in how far from Texas. Hauling costs these days have a big bearing on desirability or value. At least to me, gasoline isn't cheap.

Yes, good point, that can be a major factor as well.

There is also another incredible phenomenome that seems to hold true. They are typically worth much more when someone is trying selling one than when that same person is trying to buy one.
I never figured that one out.

Seriously, pictures and details will help get you close to a good price.

Hi,

Hmmmm. Seems to me like an excellent subject to perform an exhaustive study of.

This would mean going for one of those gummint grants we're always hearing about.

Of course, this would mean buying and selling lots of old crawlers!

later!

Stan

p.s.

I think my 420c is worth at least $10k. It's truly the best original condition 420c out there. ;)
