JD 1010 Crawler

Post by G Davis » Wed Feb 17, 2010 8:24 am

I am looking at bidding on a 1010 dozer at an auction.

It's a gas burner, but, looks clean, etc.

The best I can tell, the sprockets don't show a lot of wear, but there isn't an hour meter on it to tell much of anything else.

The battery has been removed, but, will probably be replaced before the sale date.

My limited experience has been with a Cat diesel. Don't know much at all about a gas burner.

1. Can anyone give me an idea of value?

2. What kind of power would this thing have?

Thanks.

Well as you will learn quickly about 1010s The engine is rather unique in that if you need to reline it you would have to do all cylinders because the liners are attached to a deck. If possible I would suggest a compression test or look for visible blow by.
As for the rollers, pins and bushings. These parts are getting harder and harder to find. Of course the law of supply and demand kicks in and the parts only get more expensive. Look at the treads carefully measure the distance between links to determine wear.
As for power well that depends what you are planning to do with the dozer. I think it is a good finish dozer and it is capable to clear brush from overgrown fields, and cut in a drive was If you are planning to push over sizable trees and stumps it's not the dozer for the job.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you have any idea of value?

I'm familiar with JD tractors and have restored a 1952 MT.

But I don't have a clue on something like this.

I have seen a wide range of pricing for 1010s. Some go as low as scrap value and as high as $6000. Of course at the high end the tractor would need to in outstanding shape. I have seen a lot of dozer that the owners only invested in a coar of paint to make it look good so I would say look beyond the paint. Observe how well the tractor steers. If you need to replace clutches and brake bands that is about $1000. I already mentioned the engine. I haven't needed to do pins and bushings but I can almost see a price in the $3000 range.
Other member on this board have experience in pricing but I would expect $2500-$3000 average price
