Tach

Post by Charles » Sun Apr 17, 2005 3:58 pm

Is there a replacement tach for the 420C 4 speed? Mine is bad and haven't been able to find a rebuilder that will give me a ball park price to fix it. Thanks

You can get a replacement tach from Deere, but it will be the later style, and for a wheel tractor, only good for hours and PRM.

Lavoy, Would you have the part #'s for the new style tach? My not so friendly Deere dealer says they don't have time to waste looking for parts that they say don't exist. Thanks Charles

God as hate A-holes like that. Tell him he is an idiot and has no business owning a dealership.
Part number is AT17443, took me less than 4 minutes to find it, and I was in sales, not in parts.
If he is still continues to be a loser, let me know, I will get you one here.

Tach - Dealers

Post by Jimmy in NC » Sun May 01, 2005 2:37 pm

I hate dealers like that too. I'm lucky enough to have a dealer with in 5 miles of the shop that enjoys getting his books out and talking about the two cylinder stuff with me. I've also found he has less mark up than other dealers arround. Burns me when my dad has to get something fast and deals with his local dealer... tie rod ends for his '63 110 .. my dealer..9.71.. his dealer.. 14.85.

Good luck getting your tach!

Thanks for the info. This dealership is about 300 miles from my house but next to the farm where I keep most of my toys. They use to be great at getting the older parts. But now that the young lady who was the head of the parts department had children and doesn't work that much,it's hard getting someone to help. If they still don't want to help I'll have to look for another dealership that wil. Thanks again

$170 here, don't know if you can get a better deal there, my dealer is a little pricey.

What did the original crawler tach have that the replacement doesn't ...

The tach in my 420c is missing so I'm just curious. At some point I'll wanna get one put back in ... I figure when it turns 50 I'll retire the old girl and do a resto.

Are the 420 tractor tachs the same as the 420C tachs? Is anyone currently rebuilding tachs?

The tractor tachs have different ground speeds on them, but otherwise would work. The is a company in Minneapolis/St Paul area that does gauges and tachs. I think their webiste is www.gaugeguys.com. I am going to send them a couple of tachs to look at in the next few weeks.

hmmm "ground speed" on a crawler? not my first concern :)

I figure when I get into "restore" mode tho, it might be nice to have the *right* thing ...

Mine's going to work saturday tho!
