420 Cluthes

Post by DeLo » Fri Jan 06, 2006 3:17 pm

Just got my 420 running after it sat outside with out running for nearly 20 years. I had to replace the right brake band since it was worn out. now i have a few problems left. First, the foot clutch will grind when you push the pedal, but it does not do it every time. Second the right side steering will also grind when you pull the lever. Last, something is wrong with my hydraulic pump. It is very weak. It wont lift the blade on the front at all. I dont know if it can be fixed or if it will have to be replaced. I don't really know that much about crawlers so thanks for any advise.

My guess would be that both throwout bearings are shot.
Pump problem could be the pump itself, air in the line, a suction line leak, or broken bypass spring. I would change the hyd oil first, and see what happens. Then you need to put a pressure gauge on it and see how much pressure you have.
