420 carb flooding?

Post by justjd420 » Tue Apr 27, 2010 7:12 pm

Any ideas why carb is getting a steady flow of fuel? Fuel coming out of breather tube at carb.

The float inside the bowl opens and closes a needle valve that controls the amount of fuel in the bowl at any given time. It can be a bad needle valve, a bad needle valve seat, or the float not adjusted correctly.
A new needle and seat are included in most carb rebuild kits.

Hi,

Usually this turns out to be a piece of dirt stuck in the needle valve. That means a manual cleaning.

There's supposed to be a screen inside the carb inlet, part of the elbow that the fuel line attaches to. They get clogged, and I've seen a lot where someone just snipped off that screen as a result.

So, now the dirt it used to trap gets to the needle valve and - stick city with gas wandering out of the air intake.....

Later!

Could be the float no longer floats. Sometimes they develope a leak. If it doesn't float the way it should it won't close the needle valve

Hi: Send me an email address, and I can send you an attached Marvel-Schebler and Zenith carb manual - I found it helpful when rebuilding my 420's carb. Paul
