440 Reverser

Post by lastchancegarage » Fri Jan 20, 2006 7:44 am

The 440 I have has a shaft down by the clutch pedal but no linkage or connections of any kind hooked up to it. It doesn't look like there was a shifter installed either. Was the reverser housing and shaft installed on all 440's? I'm wondering if I in fact have a reverser or I'm looking at some sort of a "dummy" shaft which has no internal working parts. The shaft slides easily back and forth but doesn't feel as though anything is engaging inside. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Scott

the reverser was an option but some people when they went bad put a dummy shaft in them istead of repairing them. Lavoy can anser you better when he comes back he's like a walking dictionary on these things.

Howard is correct. Look in the front bung plug and will either see a clutch pack, or nothing but a shaft, I am betting on the shaft.

If it was done correctly there is not. They should have removed the rear clutch pack and drive hub, as well as the front idler bearing.

You were right Lavoy, nothing but the shaft left in there. One more thing to fix when I get ready to tear it down.
