My 420C. Kind of an interesting story.
Testing my newfound photobucket skills. Want to see if the images will post up.
This particular 1957 - 420C was bought brand new by my grandfather in 1957. My dad took him to pick it up at the dealership as he had the only flatbed truck around at the time. My grandfather used this crawler to skid logs for the most part as he owned and operated his own sawmill. It was also used around the farm. I remember being a little kid and my dad using it to plow the driveway (500' long) and can also vividly remember him using it to pull a sleigh to the woods every December to get Christmas trees for all the different family members. I have a few pics from the early 70's when I was about 5 or 6 of myself riding in the fender wooden toolbox while dad plowed.
Grandpa died in 1984 and my uncle claimed it before any other family member could. Obviously from the pics it wasn't well cared for. The final drives went bad about 25 years ago and it got tore apart in the yard right where you see it. All the parts out of the left final drive are solid rust. Motor was siezed to the point that I had to beat the forward piston out of the block. Block will be done next week. Boiled, Bored, decked and line honed.
It took me over a year to finally get ownership of this 420C but I have it in my garage now. I've had it for 5 weeks and have it 65% restored.
My dad comes down every night and helps me with it as much as he can. He's 71 so he does his best. The smile he has when he see's me bead blasting, etch priming and painting every individual part makes me feel like I'm doing it more for him than myself. Breathing life back into something his dad loved. The ironic part is my property is on the 117 acres that use to be grandpa's farm. I'm more or less restoring it in what use to be the pasture. All 117 acres are still family owned.
I have tons of pictures of all that I've done to it so far but photobucket only allows 5 photos for free????

Chassis pretty much stripped and ready for bead blasting.
I've been through 20 bags of sand so far. $$$
Oh well, It gave me an excuse to buy a new bead blaster.
After bead blasting the main Crawler chassis to bare metal I etch primed it and painted it in Single stage acrylic urethane. Looks pretty sharp.
Looks good, interesting story.
Now as to Photobucket, I have not had any problems with uploading images from my computer to it. I have uploaded 15 images at a time. try compressing them down with Irfanview or another photo editing program before uploading . If I am on my laptops wireless connection it can be tricky to upload to photobucket.
