Axle removal

Post by bent » Mon Apr 18, 2005 9:45 am

Okay, last night I built a puller. I took a piece of 3/8" steel about 3"x8" and cut holes to match the holes on the bearing quill. I cut the centre out to allow access to the shaft and cut notches into the ends for the legs of my puller. I used 7/16" cap screws and attached the puller legs to the notches on the end of the plate. I added 2 strips of 3/8" welded at right angle to the plate for strength. I made an end for the puller legs and put the port-a-power in, tightened everything up, moved to the other side of the case and three pumps got the axle moving. No hammering, heating or beating.
