A question of cables?

Post by Willyr » Mon Jul 19, 2010 8:35 pm

My tachometer cable (the guts) is missing. I called John Deere and the have a listing for it at $90. They asked me the transmission speed. Is there really a difference between the 4 speed and the 5 speed? I have seen these online for a mere $33. Hate to buy from John Deere if I can get it cheeper eslewhere. But also hate the idea of buying the cheap one and find out there is a difference and get the wrong one.

Hi,

The only thing I can think of is the tach itself would be different as the dial contains ground speed scales for each gear, and that would be linked to which gearbox you had.

I can't imagine that the connection on the tachs would be different, but that is possible. I would think they'd specify the same for both tachs, but perhaps they didn't and there is a difference.

Lavoy would know as he's seen the most machines of anyone here and if this were something that bites you, he'd have been bitten already!

later!

There is no difference, not sure why they would ask you that.
I have cables on hand.
