440 water pump shim

Post by lherseth » Fri Sep 10, 2010 8:50 pm

Took my pump of to replace with a new one and the manual says make sure you install the shim in the upper right corner, mine was missing when I tool it off. Anybody know what size shim was used? Also I need to make 2 new gaskets to mount the pump. one for the block and one for the inlet elbow, what should I use for gasket material. Would I want to use High tack when I install the gaskets?

I have never used the shim, not sure what it is even for. Gaskets are available new.

Opps, made a error the shim goes in the upper left corner. when you mount the pump to the block the surfaces dont match up tight in the upper LEFT corner thats why thy put a shim in there. My pump must have been changed at one time and the shim wasnt installed on the new one. I guess they must not really need it if you have never put it in eithier. It does show the shim in both my 420 and 440 manual.
