i have a chance to buy a 1010 with broken trany. How close is the size to my 2010? Is the loader the same? tracks? etc. many interchangeable parts?
It is a 3hr drive from here and the lady who owns it knows nothing about it. Thanks, Rob
2010 versus 1010
Hi Rob-
There is a difference in size and weight from a 1010 to a 2010. There are a few interchangeable parts, but probably not as many as you would have liked. I am by no means the expert on this but have taken a look at this before for my 2010.
Depending on the serial number range of your 2010 (if pre-42,000), the track links and pads would be the same (although there are fewer links in the 1010 than the 2010). Sprockets and front idlers are different- not sure off top of my head if the top idler or bottom rollers are the same or not.
The engines are different, but I think a 2010 engine can bolt into a 1010 and vice versa as a complete replacement- I think the 2010 gas was same bore and stroke as a 1010 diesel. Lavoy or others would need to confirm if 1010 engine can go into a 2010, but seems like it would be underpowered that way. Usually it is the other way (shoehorning in a 2010 engine into a 1010).
If you have a H-L-R on the 2010, then the transmission is different. I'm not sure if the constant mesh transmssions were the same between the two models.
I think the hood is smaller, but not sure. Not sure about the deluxe seat frame.
Obviously there are additional differences if one is a loader vs dozer, or gas vs. diesel. Sorry I can't be more helpful at the moment- the best way would be to compare the parts numbers from each parts manual.

(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment
