whats better 420C or 440IC
I have a 420C and a 440IC with a blade, whats the best one to keep for performance and parts avalibility?
There is a lot of parts commonality between the two, so in that catagory, it is a horse apiece. 440 is most likely a stronger crawler by virtue of it's design. Really, it is a personal matter, but I would lean toward the best shape crawler if there is a substantial difference there. Or, alternately, just keep them both.

If you have a true 1958 440C, which would have to be an "IC" (gasser), then you have basically a 430 with an industrial bonnet. However, if you have a 1959 or 1960 440C, it is 30 HP and the tranny and rear are built stronger.
You can tell the year by the serial number. If it is missing or unreadable, the later (stronger) tranny has a dip stick on the top front left that the 1958 does not have.
If you need to part with one, use that to base your decison.
