Correct part numbers 440 gas Dozer

Post by jflores » Thu Oct 07, 2010 4:22 pm

I am trying to find the correct part number for the coil, condensor and points for my JD 440 Gas Dozer.

I replaced my Radiator and solved the cooling problem. Now I cannot seem to get it to start correctly. I had a local mechanic replace the fuel line, filter, and coil, condensor and points, He was able to run it with no problems, but when I made it down to run it, I could get it to start, but after about ten minutes, it died.

thanks for the response.

R/ Jorge

I'd check the wiring, starting switch, and connections before swapping out the ignition parts if they were replaced by your mechanic. Old wires hide problems and can be a PITA, but are not too expensive to replace or override in the testing process.
I had a nagging starting problem on my 420c last year that was resolved by replacing the 9" wire and connectors between the coil and distributor - less than $1.00 and a few minutes to do. Good luck . Paul

Any chance the fuel tank vent is plugged and causing a vacuum after the engine runs for a while?

How exactly do i check that. Do I try to run it with the cap removed ? or what do I need to do ? ( Sorry about the lack of knowledge on this )

If you are considering the coil and points as the problem, you might want to read the following thread on this board:

http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/ ... sc&start=0

In the thread, a number of members offered their advice on gas engine electrical ignition problems.
