Generator install

Post by Doc in Vermont » Sat Feb 04, 2006 8:45 pm

I have a 440 ICD. Had to buy a rebuilt generator for it thru the local JD dealer. They told me they'd polarized the generator. I mounted it on the crawler today and connected the white wire to the "F" terminal and the black wire to the "A" terminal. The ammeter showed it wasn't charging. I then loosened the nuts holding the black & white wires and the ammeter indicated it was charging.

What do I need to do to make it charge? Do you think it is polarized properly?

When you say loosen, how loose are you talking? Still somewhat snug? or freely turning?

Freely turning nuts. The engine was running, the nuts were loosened and the two (connected) wires were showing sparks on the terminal studs.
