The 440 crawlers were all positive ground. I'd like to switch to an alternator which is only going to work with a negative ground. The only problem I can see doing this is the hour meter. The question is, will the hour meter count up properly when hooked up as negative ground or will it run in reverse?
Thanks,
Brad

Hmm, for some reason I had thought the case was grounded (i.e. tied to positive). Now that I think about what you said it is rubber mounted. Makes all the difference in the world.Lavoy wrote:Hour meter should not know the difference as long as positive is hooked to positive on the meter.
You will also need to change the wires on the ammeter.

Positive ground
The flathead 'old' Fords were 6v positive ground and there are alternators available that are set up for 6v positive ground for them. Mounting bracket may be a concern.
