air filter for mc

Post by millertym2 » Thu Dec 02, 2010 6:17 pm

Does any one know what aftermarket air filter would fit on a MC? I still have the oil bath filter but want to run a regular air filter to use for everyday use.

Hi,

The first thing I think of is a precleaner. That's the bowl-looking thing that goes on the top of the inlet pipe in place of the screen cap. That has no element in it, though. It's meant to keep the larger stuff out of the oil bath, as in field tractor use and not so much crawler use.

There are no paper element filters for the older machines. I suppose one could remove the oil bath unit and then retrofit a paper element can from something else in it's place. That's all I can think of anyway.

Later!

When I got my first 440ICD it had no air cleaner, just the pipe back from the blower. I went to the local Industrial Baldwin Filters Dealer and he came up with a round metal can w/pleated air filter inside with about a 2 1/2" rubber lined outlet. The can is about 8 in dia. and height. I got a muffler shop to make me a new adapter pipe, had to expand one end of pipe a little, cannot remeber if the expanded end was to fit the A/C or rubber elbow to the blower. Made a little bracket to hold it off the fuel filter. The whole can is replaceable and it is in the area where the oil bath should fit. I can go look for a number on it.

Im thinking I will end up making the same type of thing. Or even go simple and find a motorcycle air filter and glue it to the rubber hose that goes to the carb. I will post any pics if I find somthing that works. Thanks Guys!

You can get a K & N Filterchager that will go right on the carb for about $30 give or take.
