40c carb repair

Post by Dana » Sat Dec 25, 2010 12:20 pm

I rebuilt carb with new kit, but it wont run on its own. I can keep it running with the help of starting fluid. anyone have any ideas. Carb was soaked for two months in cleaner. What would a replacement carb cost roughly? Does anyone out there rebuild these? maybe I missed something.

Did you remove all jets and the load nozzle and make sure all passages are clear?

Thanks for the reply. after more digging around, I did notice a jet under the needle valve that was plugged solid. cleaned her out and now there is life. She purrs. Got the sprockets, pinions, and tracks on today. Need a few snap rings for track pins and right pinion gear.Might be able to move her tomorrow. Thanks to all of you folks that walked me through this monumental task. I had never done anything like this before. Very rewarding. I would like to find a blade (somewhere close to Oregon). The bucket on this crawler is funky at best. Ram shafts are pretty well rusted too.
Future project....
Thanks again

Glad that you found the problem. Lots of money spent at carb repair shops when many times it is a simple blockage. Soaking will not remove all rust and certain blockages, no matter how long it soaks. If the soaking solution is actually strong enough to do that, it will likely damage the carb in the process. Soaking is great for carbs that just have varnish buildup.
There should also be a screen filter on the inlet tube coming in to the carb. These are great as a last chance to catch foreign matter, but also can create a blockage as stuff has stopped at the screen.
