new to board

Post by jim420 » Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:49 pm

new to board and have a question. i have 2 old sets of tracks for a 4 roller 420c. rails are thin on one set and the other set is rusted up tight so bushings will not pivot. both sets are 2 bolt and i currently have a 4 bolt set on my crawler so the pads wont interchange. should i scrap them?

Depends on if you have the room to save them. Not a lot of value in either case, but might be of some use to someone.

My 2 cents-

If the rails are too thin, then they probably aren't going to be much use to others. I would put them up for sale and see if there are any takers, but otherwise you could probably get a little money for them as scrap.

However if the pads are good, I would save them because they don't take up much space and could be of use to someone with the 2-bolt rails. I wouldn't think it would take too much effort to use a cutting torch and burn off the attaching bolts. They should then stack up nicely until you find someone that could use them.

Maybe your wife would like a rustic garden path made of metal stepping "stones", or a garden border that won't rot?

I made a yard sculpture out of worn out skidder ring chains - once. ;_0

Welcome to the site!!!!

With scrap prices being up, it may be worth the effort to cut the pads off, take the rails and cut bolts and nuts to get some $$$ if you have a scrap yard near by.
Someone will want those pads.

When I moved onto this property in 2004 there was a chain here so badly rusted wasnt worth considering for anything other than junk. Since it had been coiled up I took a piece of pipe and made a bumper shoot stand for the wife. Works perfect even in strong winds.

Tiny, If you get a picture of the sea serpent, please post it. I have a pond. I have some old tracks. Sounds like the type of art I can appreciate. Thanks, Gil

That's how I removed some of my pads that needed the holes repaired, and it wasn't hard. Considering I had to drive the bolts out of the chain, and you wouldn't have to take that step for something that is being scrapped, you could probably pull all the pads in about 3 hours.
