Winches

Post by Swawpy » Thu Mar 24, 2011 4:29 pm

Anybody know what all winches I can start looking for that will fit a jd440? Carco, jd, or gearmatic. Is a 440 considered offset pto? I would love to find something like a 8g for simplicity

thanks

I have a Braden winch on my 40 and 430 Its chain driven off the PTO and attachés to the finals with angle iron and flat stock.I understand it was a dealer add on option.I have a picture of it in show and tell under our family of deers.

I just bought an 8a that came off a 440 crawler. An 8g is the same winch just mechanically activated and the other is hydraulically activated. I just put a 3315 Deere on my 1010 so I think that will work all so. Jason

Thanks, will any winch swap out between 40, 420, 440, ? I know the 440 has heavier finals but are the mountings and dimensions the same? Is a 440 considered offset pto?

What I am getting at is this; There is a 40 locally with a winch- will this bolt right to a late 440 (pto, brackets, mounts, and all) ?? It is said to have worked fine last time the crawler ran...but you all know how that goes!! Anyway if it will mount correctly I would like to go look at it this weekend, Thanks.

Yes it will fit. And as for your pto it is an offset shaft. I just sold a 8a that came of a 440 my buddy put it on his 40 worked fine.Jason

Just found out it is a Holt winch...google turned up very little. Anybody know anything about them. Was told the controls on the fender need rebuilt and it should work, but again...we all know how that goes. It sounds similar to a gearmatic with a master cyl and 2 controls. I'm just afraid if it needs more, parts will be unavailable. Man these crawlers are addicting! I will post some pics either way. Thanks again.

My tractor came with a garwood 10,000 pound winch. The tractor was on a tree farm.

A owner prior to the fellow I bought it from (according to locals) was notorious for retrofitting vehicles / tractors with diamond plate and military OD green. Hence the color on the back end. He also made some interesting cylinder mounts that double as a winch mount.

Post by zakemmi farms » Sat Mar 26, 2011 11:25 am

I have an 8a and an 8G. I need Brake band assemblies for both. Also, when I get one or both completed I will part out the other. Any help will be appreciated.
