Post by tuney443 » Sun Apr 03, 2011 11:10 am

On my 59' 440 track loader, the 1 side, the sprocket is wiggling around, actually it is hitting the bottom roller some. What kind of keeper holds her in,bearing[s],where to get parts, difficulty of repair, etc. Thanks.

sounds like you are in for a rebuild on your final drive.
Lavoy will have all the parts...I wouldn't use it in that condition,it will gernade itself at some point.

Back to this--does anybody have an idea what might be the culprit here and the parts I might need?

Hi: Try taking a look at your machines parts' catalogue.
type in the model number (440) where asked to reach the .pdf needed. Good luck. Others may be able to share first hand knowledge of your problem, and solutions.

More than likely the bearing is gone for your axle. You'll be needing bearing and cup for each end of the axle, seal for axle retainer, shim kit for axle, bearings for the upper pinion shaft and shim kit for it as well.
That's what I can think of off the top of my head.

You will need to remove and disassemble the final drive to find out for sure. At the least, a final bearing kit, at the most, add in gears and an axle.

I suggest that the only next move of the crawler would head strait in the garage. I would check if the axle washer (behind the small inner cover) is tight. I had a bad axle bearing lately. The axle came loose. Bearing Rollers went between gears. Result: Everything is Broken.

Once you pull the final, you'll see what the brake band looks like. Maybe oil soaked from the seals being beaten up. If the sprocket wobbles something has to suffer in there... You shurely would check how the clutch pack looks like as well. Look for the transmission/steering case seal also (located in the hub).

I'm right in this actually If I can help! You can go with Lavoy for bearings and other parts.
