2010 injector pump rebuild

I started pulling my engine and am going to go through it. I am considering trying my hand at rebuilding my injector pump. there are no mouse turds" visible in the timing window, haven't popped the cap yet.

it is a DB0429-0494 pump.
I have the manual that jdemaris had linked and have been studying the old posts. His statement several times that "someone with knowledge" could do it on the bench in an hour gives me hope that I could do it. Time doesn't matter in as far as I don't expect to do it in an hour.

It seems that I have the potential to save big bucks if I carefully do this. I was quoted 700.00 from a local shop, still shopping around.

My one time doctor who was a personal friend made the comment to me once that I could do most of what he did. My point I guess is we pay people to do what they do for a reason. If it was that easy, everyone could do it, and we would not need these people. When it comes to something like an injector pump with all of its various complexities and settings that should be done on a test bench, is it really worth saving the few hundred dollars by doing it yourself?
Twice I have had rotary injector pumps rebuilt by a man I know and trust with extensive diesel and pump experience, but no test bench. Then, within a short time period, I ordered rebuilt pumps for both of these machines from my rebuilder. Not that they did not run, but they did not run as I think they should, nor as I feel they were designed to. With the pumps rebuilt by a professional pump shop, and run in on a test bench, they ran great, started great, and in general were much, much nicer than the one with a few new parts stuck in it and a guess as to settings.

Thanks, that is why I ask. Your experience far surpasses mine. I am pretty handy, but your advice is from experience and makes sence.

Any advice on a shop? I can use a local one, but maybe you know a specialist or a quality bargain....

I only deal with one place any more, Spencer Diesel in Iowa. They don't deal direct with the customer, but they are a supplier of mine, so if you strike out locally, still no problem.

Glad I listened to you Lavoy! I took it to the shop and apparently they had rebuilt it in the past (old rebuild she said) they gave it a quick once over and think it is still fine. If they are right, it'll save me a few bucks and if it isn't doing the job on ht rebuilt motor then I can take it back....

I also found out that they'll check my injectors for free

my motor's out, haven't tore it down yet though. I'll try to post some pics
