440 with a loader

Post by willy wagon » Fri May 13, 2011 6:04 pm

looking at a 440 with a diesel. been sitting for some time with the injectors out. they were rebuilt. the owner does not know how to time it. probably $1000 gets it. should i consider it or run? what kind of a job to get it running?

Timing the injectors is no big deal. It is like setting the valves, but you do need the little gauge that DD sells to set them. The service manual walks you through it. Also want to check the valve settings.
The hard part when they will not run is the hidden issues like drivetrain, steering brakes, etc, can lurk. But for a $1,000, you could part it out and be OK should the worst case be there.
