420C track pins

Post by 63DH8 » Sat Aug 13, 2011 1:32 am

I decided it would be best if I gave my tractor a once over before doing any serious work with it. I found the master pin with no problems; It was sticking out about an inch, and wasn't touching the far side link. I noticed it was too short to fully engage both sides at the same time, so I ordered a master pin from the local JD dealer. When I got it, the first thing I noticed was the new pin was much smaller in diameter than the old one. The old one is 1.18 inches in diameter. The new pin is .994". The old pin has a dimple, and the newly purchased one has a shoulder and grooved for a C clip. Obviously, this isn't going to work.

After doing a search in this site, I found that the old pin is considered the "new" style. The question I have is, because the pin and link is too large for the old (newly purchased) pin, is it possible that the links (rails) for my tractor is from another make or model of tractor? The part number on the outside rail is Berco-ID62. I can't make out the part number on the inside rail. I'll check again in the morning. Where would I find another pin for my tractor?

420 pins

Post by doc40c » Sat Aug 13, 2011 4:04 pm

hi 63DH8, i just put aftermarket 350 chain on my 40c with worn 420 sprockets and i had one of the new pins laying around and it measured 1.187" and 5.5" long. sounds like your chain may also be 350 chain. Lavoy should probably have a master for you. hope this helps. Randy from Michigan!

Howdy Doc! Thanks for the info. Do you know if the pin size on your aftermarket pins are the same size as the factory JD pins?

I'm going to give Lavoy the first shot on this. I like the idea of supporting the person who supports us.

Lavoy!!!! Do ya have any info and a pin fer sale? Thanks in advance! :D
