fenders

Post by millertym2 » Fri Mar 17, 2006 4:46 pm

Has anybody ever made new fenders for a MC? I was thinking of making new fenders out of diamond plate but didnt know how they would look. I still have the originals but they are a little dinged up.

Also I put a 12 volt alternator on but rigged up a bracket for the alt. But its not perfect so the belt is wearing. Is there any braket that would bolt right up or do I have to just put the time in and make a bracket the right way?

Thanks ahead of time,millertym2.

If the mounting is basicly the same as the 420 I should have the one that came off my crawler. I went back to the 6volt. What kind of alt did you put on? Where are you located in NY in reference to Oneonta? Thanks Charles

I have not ordered them yet, but I am going to have some adjustable universal mounts for putting alternators on, as well as the curved adjuster strap. That should save a lot of time and fooling around making them.

Charles,

I am about 2 hours north east of oneonta.Im by the eastern tip or oneida lake.

I put on a alt. from a 91 ford ranger I had in my garage. It was a very close fit. I just made up 2 brackets that are 3" long with a hole at each end to mount from the block to the alt. The curved adjustment rod is very close. I just have to put a bend in the 2 lower brackets to bring the alt out to the front more.

Lavoy,

You will probably post when you have the brackets,So if I havent made my brackets work I will get them form you.

Thanks again,millertym2.

Digitup,

I see what you mean.I looked at your pics and they would look good if they had the side to square them off. I may just fix up the old ones. I will price the materials and make a decision from there.

Thanks,millertym2.

I have some pics of my fenders which are home made using diamond plate. I'd trade them in a heart beat for original fenders.. but these sure take alot of abuse.

You can see them in some of these photos.. I know.. a work in progress.. it's getting there.

Jimmy,

Not too shabby of a 420 there. It looks pretty nice compared to my old abused MC. http://mymcproject.shutterfly.com/actio ... 30f690a435 I will update my pics soon now that I've got her running good.

I am going to try making new fenders just to see how it goes. I still have the originals to fall back on.

Thanks,millertym2.

Jimmy,

I know you said that you wanted some origiinal fenders. I sont know if they will fit but there are some mc fenders on ebay-- http://cgi.ebay.com/John-Deere-MC-MT-M- ... dZViewItem

They dont look too bad. Mine are a little rougher but I aint got the cash to get any others. Later,millertym2.
