440 FINAL DRIVE

I NEED TO REMOVE THE FINAL DRIVE ON MY 440 , ANY TIPS OR ADVICE FOR ME ? WHAT KINDS OF COMMON PROBLEMS WILL I RUN INTO ?

If you don't already have them, get a parts and service manual. Someone here is making CD copies, that is a neat way to do it, you can print off the page you want and take it to the shop with you.
ALWAYS check the bearings and seals in the final, I will bet you that the axle seal is bad. If so, it will let dirt in and ruin the bearings.

go slow, take your time.
keep your fingers out of the way.......
not to bad of a job, just time consuming.

LAVOY, WHERE CAN I FIND GASKETS AND SEALS IF NECESSARY , ALSO IS POSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE FINAL WITHOUT A HOIST AS SHOWN IN THE BOOK?

I usually have most of that stuff on hand.
You can do it without a hoist, but you will need help, empty case is 147lbs, full case is going to be over 250.
