1010 chain master pins?

Post by fruitcakesa » Mon Nov 07, 2011 1:03 pm

On my 1010 gasser the master pins are obvious, pointed at one end and a clip on the other.
On my 1010 diesel all the pins look the same ie: flattened on both sides with no obvious master.
What should I be looking for and on which side of the chain [inner or outer edge]?

On my 1010 Diesel someone had the clips facing in towards the tractor took awhile to find the master pin.
As far as I know the diesel and gas are same tracks and pins

Some master pins have a "T" head and "C" clip, and some aftermarket are pressed in and have a small center dimple (full of dirt?) for identification - the dimple may be on either side of the track depending on how they were installed.

I have two 2010s with early style tracks, basically the same as the 1010s but more links. They both use a headed pin- rectangular head and a groove for a c-clip on the other end.

Sometimes the clip is missing on the headed pins. There is also the possibility that a drivemaster style pin was used- basically cylindrical with tapers on both ends.

As for orientation, it is possble that the tracks were put on backwards so the head could be on the inside or outside.

It will just take time to look closely.

if the master pins have a head on one end and a clip on the other then one clip will be on the inside and the other track it will be on the outside as they did not make left and right master links
