Under carriage useful life?

Post by handlebar99 » Fri Mar 24, 2006 6:36 pm

How does one determine how much useful life is left in the undercarriage? I have about 3 1/2 inches of adjustment left for the front idlers on my 5 roller 420c loader. Do I have a problem based on that?

What do you measure to be able to arrive at a statement such as " 50% life left in the bottom"??

The actual calculations to measure undercarriage are quite a few. 99% of the time when someone says such and such percent undercarraige, they are just guessing, and I am including myself in that. I have the sheets to do undercarraige calculation, and after reading the process, I said heck with it. Really, if all you are concerned about is pin and bushings wear, measure across 4 links (5 pins). 23" is new, 23.25" is 100% worn.
