440?
Howdy ya'll. I am new to the forum and have a couple questions about a crawler that came into my shop the other day. I think it's a 440 but not sure. All the number plates are gone. I learned to run a dozer on a 440 gaser and this one seems a little bigger than I remember but it has been slot of years since then. It has the GM diesel and 6 way blade. What is really throwing me off is the operators station. It has a battery box and blade controls on either side of the seat and looks kinda like a 350 but only at the operators area. I have never seen a 440 with anything other than flat fenders but then again my 440 experience is limited to machines with manual blades. Any help identifying this crawler would be much obliged.

Hi: Welcome to the board.
Try taking a look at the parts manuals at this site. Just type in the model number (ie: 440), to take a look. Its free, and may answer your question. Paul

Dubuque only used the GM 2-53 in the 440C for two model years, 1959 and 1960. The next diesel that came out was a 1010CD and it was a JD engine.
Unless somehow a GM was retro fitted, you have a 440ICD with a Model 64 blade.
The battery box was mounted on the front left fender for the diesel, and behind the dash stand on the gassers.
The hydraulic controls could be on either side.
