Model 62 blade
So im looking at a john deere 420 with a model 62 six way adjustable blade. Its hydraulic only on the up and down. Would it be really hard to make the pitch hydraulic on it??
Thanks
Thanks

Hi: I leave a 2lb sledge and a small crowbar in the crawler belly pan below the generator for convenience to make these adjustments. I put a bolt through the wedge so it doesn't get lost when I smack it loose. There is a blade level mark ( 1/4" dimple") on the semi-circle which helps with adjustments.
I saw elsewhere on this site pictures showing a nice solid partial conversion of a 62 blade to PAT which used a center pivot - I can't remember the topic is was shown under or who shared it - maybe someone can give a link.
Good luck. Paul

Willy shows other pictures of the back of his blade when he was building it on the picture hosting site. Maybe he'll share his thoughts. Paul

LOL I will trade my crawler with 6 way blade for a rubber tired Deere. Some reason crawlers cant participate in parades.
The only real draw back that I encountered when I made the 6 way is I used a 3 inch cylinder on the twist. It needs to be much larger. When I twist the blade in the air and then set it back on the ground, if I use any down effort the cylinder wont hold the angle.
However that being said. I can when moving forward slowly drop the blade and it will stay the angle set as long as the tractor is moving.
One of these days I will post a video of the blade going through its paces.

You mean blade tilt, pitch is moving the top of the blade forward or back to adjust how aggressively the edge cuts, which small crawlers don't have.
I also want to convert my 62 to hydraulic tilt someday. Not that it's hard to do but you really need the ability to tilt the blade on the fly to make contours easily. Lavoy is right about the tabs not being strong enough but they have already been welded on and I figure if I replace them with a single piece of curved square stock it will be much stronger. Make sure you add grease fittings.

For what it is worth. I found you need to put a rubber flap aver the joint where the pivot is. For me there is a lot of dirt that will come over the top of the blade and fall down on the back.Ray III wrote:I also want to convert my 62 to hydraulic tilt someday. 6 way blade
I solved all of the problems by using the push frame and lift cylinders for the manual blade. I cut off all the parts in the front and welded in a power 6 way blade off of a case tractor. The fit was amazingly close and it works great. I had to add an extra valve to control the tilt for the blade. I might be able to post or send some pics if anyone is interested. One big difference that I notice is that the case blade is a few inches shorter than the JD blade was.

pics, I hope
here are some pics of the case blade that I put onto my JD1010. The pushframes are original to the JD, all else is Case. Pic. number 2 shows how I cut away some of the inside of each push frame to make the correct opening for the Case frame. I added some triangular pieces for strength. Hoses are still routed through the frame. I did have to add one more valve to control the tilt of the blade.
I also drilled holes in the Case blade and bolted the 3 piece JD cutting edge to the botttom. It works great so far. It has been done for about 1.5 years.
