Is there not a tab relief in the block ? Or an oil passage that will determine direction?

There is a tab in the block opposite to cam side. There is a tab in the main cap also. But the question is what side does the tab in the main bearing cap go since you can flip the main bearing cap etheir direction. Origanlly they were opposite to cam..

Yes tab to tab at least on any eng. I've ever rebuilt. the tabs keep the bearings from spinning on both the mains and rods. tab to tab keeps the bearings in place no matter the rotation. Pay close attention to the oil ports in the bearings that they match up with the oil passages in the block for the mains and cam bearings.

The only thing that goes towards the cam is the dimples on the connecting rods, main bearings are as previoiusly described.
