jd 440 icd ripper question

Post by Gordo » Sun Apr 08, 2012 2:41 pm

Does anyone know more about the ripper(scarifier) on a 440? I have the heavy part across the back. Judging from a picture in the archives their might be two bent bars that go up and connect to the boom linkage? If anyone knows of a set for sale or if I could just get dimensions I could make them. thanks, Gordo

Gordo, are you looking for parts for the scarifier that goes with the 90 loader frame, or for the 3 point type?

The model 24 is the 3 point hitch ripper that can be attached to a 440.
If you have a piece of metal across the back other than the cross piece for the draw bar hitch, it could be the bottom part (lower arm connection) for a 3 point hitch.

My 440 is identical to the one in the photo archives, on this website, that is all painted up nice with several pictures. There are two large bars (2x4?) with maybe 30 degree angle, coming off the ripper going up to the loader frame close proximity to where you would climb onto the machine. What are those? I can't see if there are cylinders on the back to operate the ripper. Mine has been fastened solid, so basically it is a good rear weight. I would like to make mine functional again, and factory correct if possible. Thanks, Gordo

That sounds like the scarifier that goes with the 90 Loader.
If you can post some pics, we can tell for sure.
You never know when a previous owner added something.

If yours is like the one in the photo album: I think from other pictures I've saw somewhere, those bars that run from the ripper up past the seat and to the loader hook to the loader somewhere and that is how it is operated.
I could be wrong tho.

Go to the John Deere parts manual website:
http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com. ... ervlet_Alt

Search for "91" and open the manual for the Model 91 Industrial Loader. That particular scarifier is covered in the loader manual. Then look at the Model 831 Industrial Loader. A similar scarifier with many of the same parts is identified there.

Thanks guys, i checked the JD site and could get the model 91 loader catalog to download but not the 831. Still not sure which one I have but the scarifier is definitely operated off the loader arms with a set of arms coming off scarifier. Checked part number with JD, no longer available(no surprise). I was hoping someone out there knows of a set that I could get a rough idea on dimensions.

I found a serial tag on the loader today. Model 831. So if anyone out there knows of any scarifier teeth, or actuating arms lying around please let me know. Thanks Gordo
