Oil filter for a JD 440IDC
The previous owner of my 440 diesel crawler removed the oil filtration system from the dozer and plugged the ports on the engine. Can some recommend an oil filter system that I could install on my dozer? Thanks.
The 2-53 uses a bypass oil filtering system, not fullflow. I would think you could get one of the mounts used in automotive (hot rods) applications for a remote mounted filter and put a spin-on filter on it. Someone had a thread and pictures where he had made new lines out of copper tubing for the existing filter. It would be very simple to make them longer to run to a spin-on adapter mounted nearby.
Something like this is what I was thinking of

This thread is what shinnery was talking about. It has the correct oil line routing and mounting.

Be careful if you try to go original because there are two different kinds of mounts depending on your serial number. The linked thread shows the newer style.
If your wanting an original setup that is like the thread here is one:

old dutchmen,
Check on the Internet. These things would be in crawler junk yards. There folks all over the country that part these things out. It would be an item that is not in high demand, so I would not pay big money for it.
That way it would be original and not spoil the value should you ever want to sell it.
