Older JD 40C or an MC crawler???

I need help in identifying an older JD. I have a widow friend that needs to sell her deceased husbands crawlers. Please help! How do I post a picture of the crawler??[/img][/url]

All we need is the serial#.
No picture required.

MC is on the dash by the ignition switch.
40 is on the Flywheel housing left side.
