1010 dozer tracks

Post by ld7mile » Wed May 23, 2012 5:42 am

How can I find out if I have 1010 tracks and sprockets or 350 tracks and sprockets on my JD1010?

350 sprockets don't fit a 1010 final drive. The rim of a 350 sprocket can be welded to the center from a 1010 and made to work. As far as the tracks, there must be some precision measurements that could be made to determine what they are, but I do not know the spec. deifferences between the 2. I am sure someone else will chime in with that information.

Just measure the OD of one of the track bushings. 1010 when new is 1 1/2". 350 when new is 1 3/4".

I'll add that besides the bushing OD difference, the pin diameters are different -which you can easily see on the side of the track chain. 420-1010 has pins 1" diameter. 350 has pins 1 1/16" diameter.

1010 bushings are 1 9/16" diameter, 350 pins are 1 1/8" diameter.

1010 and ALL 420's use 1 9/16" bushing, and 1 9/16" is 1.562, so in my lack of precision, I guess I missed by .001.

That precision of measurement doesn't matter much for a person checking used tracks to determine if 1010 or 350. Easy check is the OD of the bushings. The 1010s are 1/4" smaller - but care must be taken to measure the bushings in relatively unworn areas next to the chain. I find it much easier to use a set of outside calipers. Using your eyeball and tape-measure can be very deceiving. At least for me it is.

JD 1010 tracks

Post by ld7mile » Thu May 24, 2012 2:58 pm

Thank everyone for all the information. The information has given me an idea. I have a good set of JD 450 tracks. What parts would I have to buy and what parts would I have to cut and weld to make the 450 tracks work on the JD 1010? Or is it even possable?

450 track chains are a totally different chain-pitch. 1010 and 350 use the same pitch - just different diameter pins and bushings. As I recall the 450 track chains are also wider - thus the different rollers. To make 450 tracks work on a 1010, you probably have to modify all the rollers, top idler, front idler wheel, and then custom-make a sprocket. It would not make any sense to try it (at least not in my mind).

There is a guy parting out a 1010 in the "Little Shop O Deeres" forum- it's a long ways for you but it may be worth asking about his tracks. otherwise you could see if someone was willing to swap a pair of 450 tracks for 350 tracks and get the sprockets converted.

The tractor salvage yard near me has an excellent set of tracks that will fit a 1010. They are 36 link but have two-bolt pads. Probably from a 440 or 420. They want $1500. Already off the machine. I would of bought them if I hadn't found the others with the four-bolt pads. Tracks are in Sharon Springs, NY .
