440ICD Fuel Shut off cable

Post by whiteclipse16 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:31 pm

Does anyone have any leads/ideas on where to find the correct fuel shut off cable. I have yet to see one in my searches for parts. Lavoy informed me that he thought someone on here had found a resource for them sometime.
Hopefully someone can help.

The "correct" one of course would be an NOS or an original off of a 440 ICD. Those are hard if not impossible to find.
You can find one that will work. Most any cable encased item with a handle on the end of it. Many of the "Choke" cables will work. You can cut the case and cable (wire) to the correct length.
The only issue is that the handle on your dash will not be correct, but it will shut the engine down properly by shutting off the fuel at the rack.
The only time you want to shut a 2-53 down by restricting air is if it running away or in an emergency. It is not good for the engine as the injectors are still spraying fuel.

1955 FORD 640 (burns the most fuel)

I think that's what I'm going to have to settle for, a "Choke" cable. It's really not that big of a deal, and to most people they won't know the difference. I don't know that anyone is reproducing them. The parts for the 440 diesel are all nearly impossible to find I'm finding out.
Unless I find time to make that shut off lever 2006, I won't even be needing the shut off cable. I really don't want to fix it up to where you just put the throttle way down to shut it off.
I'll keep searching.

Hi Ben,

Tomorrow I'll travel east and I have to stop by the old man's. It's been almost 6-7 months he talked about a 440ICD supposed to arrive. An unfinished project that the guy wants to get rid of... The old Fred will part it out for shure... but when, eh. I'll check for you.
