Advice on where to get parts

Post by krob » Wed Jun 20, 2012 5:33 pm

Hey Guys,

I am working on a MC, and i need a few parts, where is the best place to get them these days?

Normally i would go to my John Dear Dealer but i am curious if there are better sources.

This is what i need points, distibuter cap, rotar, and coil.

Thanks
Rob

Lavoy is The administrator of this site. He sells parts as well. You're at the right place. Send him a private message or e-mail with what you need.

Thanks for the replies, yeah right after i posted i read something about the sales here. I am going to call tomorrow.

Long story short i was loading it onto a trailer...it was only sort of running...to take it to a friend who was going to fix a cracked weld on the blade frame...anyway he plaid with it for a few minutes and his diagnoses is the carb is plugged up so ill find out tomorrow what i need.

Since i am working on it i am sort of figuring on fixing multiple issues while i have it apart so i am sure i will be an active poster for awhile.

I have to find it but we have a manual some where around here that is probably 8in tall and 5 in wide...is that the actual shop service manual you were talking about or is that a owners manual?

Thanks for all the help
Rob

Oh also we did a compression test i am looking through the manual but if any of you know what the acceptable compression is? It was 85 and 75 front to rear.

Thanks

thats fine for a gas engine, low for a diesel. Diesel is 120 to 150 I think, not sure of the upper number.

If that manual is listed for the 4401CD, that is probably a copy of the I & T manual. I think they were the first ones that mistook the I for a 1. The actual JD name for the 440 series was 440I for Industrial, then C for Crawler and D for Diesel. This manual has good info in it but not as good as the Deere manual, in my opinion. For the MC, a manual for it or at most the 40C would cover all the MC specific info.

I know the manual you are referring to, and no it is somewhere past bird cage liner. It is an overall general reference, but real light on specifics. Get the actual manual that is for your crawler, both parts and service, that is a much better way to go.

Yes there was, I deleted it. I feel no need whatsoever to provide a place for my competitors to advertise. If they would like to start their own message board, they are welcome to. Selling parts is what allows me to pay for this website, if I don't sell parts, there won't be a website.

parts again

Post by vtjoe » Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:51 am

Lavoy I really enjoy this site and have found it very useful and completely understand your position about other parts sources. But while owning my ford 2000 has been a good experience, finding a seat has not. I guess I'm lucky I got to the post before you did Ha Ha !!!! You don't have one do you? cause i have not purchased one yet

Do you need seat cushions or frame or what? I have probably 10 different suppliers that I work with or more, and have a lot of parts for tractors, actually much better than the crawlers unfortunately. Much of the crawler stuff I have is what I have developed over the years on my own.
Let me know what piece/s you need, I can check.

Used parts

Post by JWB Contracting » Fri Jun 22, 2012 6:50 pm

What I find most important about buying parts is the knowledge and experience that goes behind them. I shop around for non own parts but have learned which ones know about there product very quickly. It is very frustrating when the guys at the parts counter know nothing about the product. We waited 2 months for an sun gear stub axle for a big ditch witch trencher and when I went to pick it up I didn't even have to open the box. They order me an axle shaft for a solid axle instead of a 6" stub that fits in a steering planetary. The manager gave the guy shit for getting it wrong, the correct piece is coming from overseas in a few weeks. Spent big $ rigging up another trencher as I needed one right away.

Find yourself a good supplier and stick with even if it costs you a few more $. Much better than getting poor quality or the wrong parts.
