Marvel Schebler carb throttle shaft bushings

In all the carb rebuild kits I have seen in some the throttle shaft is included but not the brass bushings for the shaft itself. Can these bushings be purchased? My new shaft still seems like it could draw air. Thanks for any help that can be offered.

I believe somebody suggested going to a hobby or model shop and buying thin wall brass tubing used in model building. Get a size that will just fit over the throttle shaft and cut it to length with a cutoff wheel in a Dremel tool or something similar. Then fit it into the carb. body as needed, possibly held in place with epoxy. Or even flare it a little to keep it from moving. HTH

if that doesn't work try a supplier of old harley parts.

most linkert carbs from '36 to 1965 use similar bushings.

let me know what the shaft size is and i can see what is available...

Do most rebuild kits for Linkerts come with the bushings? The reason I ask is we just got a barn fresh low mileage original 63 pan thats going to need the tanks cleaned and the carb done, but I don't think it will need the bushings changed. Maybe I'll have the extras I need for Marvel on the SA-200 I'm redoing.

some do and some don't. i have a '55 fl panhead with a linkert M-74b on it that i had a good friend go through. we had the bushings and other parts in our collective stashes.

my other bike is a 42 wla that i found a surplus army carb rebuild kit for. that one came with everything, bushings included.

one thing to keep in mind about linkerts or any other vintage carb is that today's fuels are very digestive and will dissolve the coatings on cork floats and make tham less boyant. in the past most folks would replace the cork with a brass float and that creates even more problems due to the difference in weight. (plus they leak and sink)

in the late 50's HD switched to a black foam float that is commonly refered to as a "armstrong" float. they too are subject to modern fuels and swell up and become jammed in the float bowl!

i have a buddy named tom cotten who makes a float out of the same foam used in modern fuel level senders. they are impervious to modern fuels and are the exact weight as the original cork ones. he also services vintage carbs of many other makes. (i have about 4 of these in service with excellent results)

The TSX series does not have throttle shaft bushings. Not that it can't happen, but in wokring on a hundred or more of these carbs, I have never had one that needed bushings. Normally the throttle shaft tightens them back up just fine, and any leakage that may occur is handled by the throttle shaft seal.

Lavoy, I think if were to wear my glasses more I would be able to see! I thought the end of the seal retainer was a bushing as well as a keeper for the seal. Thanks, the new seal tightened it right up. My thanks also to John for the Linkert info, and I will look up that site.
