Glow plugs.
Where are the glowplugs located on the 2-53 Detroit Diesel?

There are no glow plugs on the GM 2-53. The only heat source is compression, unless you choose to add a block heater.
There are two different kits that can be used. The "S" kit is 17-1 compression and is what JD speced for this crawler.
I changed mine to the "N" kit which is 21-1 compression. It does not increase HP very much, maybe torque some. But it sure helps it start great and burn cleaner with lower fuel usage.
