traxcavator on e-bay
Was just cruising E-Bay and spotted a 440 "Traxcavator"? After looking at the photos it has a different handle - lever in the lower left dash and appears to be missing the throttle lever. Would this by chance be a "Pilot Touch" unit that the factory recalled most of when they were new due to most not working. If not what do we have? Thanks Drummer
440 ICD,#64 six way blade, center throttle, late March 1960 build; 440 I gas wheel tractor, loader, 3 pt, float ride seat, pto, reverser, 5speed.

It took me awhile to figure out how to link but got it done. Its the first time I've ever had to do it. You need to scroll down the page to see the dash picture. Drummer

Is this the one you are referring to?

First of all, run the other way!!!!
JD did not call this a Traxcavator. It is a 440 IC with a beat up 91 loader. There is no Pilot Touch on this one, it is a monkey rigged throttle. They drilled a hole in the dash so it would need to be repaired or replaced. The Pilot Touch got rid of the steering handles. There are other things monkey rigged on it too, and that is just from looking at pics. The hydraulic plumbing is not near correct.
It has the wrong tracks on it for a loader. It should have semi grousers on it so that it will slide better when the bucket is full. The chains are very worn and thin.
It may make a parts crawler if you buy it cheap enough, but it is not a $3,000 crawler.

Thanks for reply. I was curious about that throttle. I've heard of the pilot touch but don't know much about it. I'm in no way interested in buying this crawler. I've owned a nice low hour original 440 ICD for years. It had an easy life on a sod farm and an easy life with me too. I've done the upkeep, kept up the adjustments, and have never had it apart. I have two 440 gas wheel tractors and am now working on one so I spend more time here. I hope I can contribute as much as the help I've been given. Thanks Drummer

I also noticed the absence of a reverser in addition to the taut four bolt rails.

2006 spoke it perfectly. Definitely a lot "rigged."
Not much interested in the crawler but that Mustang in the background of the one pic, that's another story.
Anyone know what year? Got to be a 67 or 68. Not a 65,66 or 69,70. Could be a 71 or 72 I suppose.

71 or 72 are a bigger car, almost like the Gran Torinos. Has to be earlier than 70.

traxcavator on ebay
I believe the Mustang is newer than '68. '67&'68 were the same taillights and I think they were rounded inward. None of them run like a DEERE. Greg

Crawler
Not saying that it is worth the money, but it is saying something when a 53 old piece of iron is still running. I would say it had its wheels ran off for most of its life. The loader is worn out and the tracks have been replaced and they are worn out too. Maybe saw service in a Township quarry. If the price was 1500 I might buy it a long way to go for me though. Tom.
