40C cross member assembly

Post by AllenS » Fri Aug 31, 2012 6:19 pm

I adjusted my safety blocks so that there was about 3/16ths of an inch clearance to the sprocket. After pushing a lot of dirt and pulling out a stump, the left hand safety block is now almost touching the sprocket and the right side is touching. What is causing this? Are the rubber mounts for the brackets shot? I've got the machine up on some ramps and will remove the loader arms tomorrow. Anything else that I should look for?

Make sure that there is no play in your final drive axle bearings. Other than that, bad cushions, sideframe to clutch housing bolts loose, final drive bolts loose.

Removed the track, and there is play with the right side final drive axle bearings or the axle itself. The final drive housing on that side of the crawler has been welded before. Haven't checked the left side yet for play in that axel. Sounds like a nice winter project. I'll put everything together for now, and store the crawler in an outside building until I can get to it.
